Run away together.
You may have to contend with kids, bills and work, but take at least a few hours to create a private world for you and your spouse. Turn off your cellphones, pick up your favorite takeout food, fill your iPod with tunes crammed with memories and hit the open road together. What you do once you're gone is completely up to you. You could get a hotel room and steam up the sheets, head to the coast and play in the water, or enjoy a few hours talking at a quiet park. The point is to do something that reminds you of where you came from and who you are as a couple – which is all too easy to lose when you're dealing with the details of life.
There's nothing like a good belly laugh to bust up stress and open the floodgates of positive human emotion, so spend a few hours being silly with your spouse. Life doesn't have an automatic laugh track, so here are a few fun ways to get giggling:
- Head to the zoo together, because not much is funnier than a bunch of monkeys.
- Take a class in something you're both equally bad at, such as trapeze or ice skating. You'll have the fun of laughing at yourselves while rooting each other on.
- Play truth or dare. You'll have fun making up dares for one another, and you might learn something about your spouse in the process.
You probably think you know why exercise is important, but did you know that exercise can improve your sex life? It stimulates the release of endorphins, making you feel especially confident, and increases blood flow throughout your body, greasing the wheels... so to speak. While exercising on your own is just fine, spending an hour exercising with your spouse will give you the chance to see his muscles in action as he works up a sweat. Afterward, you'll have the perfect excuse to hit the showers together.
